Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

For any of you with a branded O2 handset the 2.2 update has been re-released today. Mine updated very happily and seems much faster and is rocking flash 10.1 etc. happily. BBC iplayer worked perfectly first time as have everything else including wifi hotspot so far!

Maybe it's just a placebo from getting the 2.2 update. But does anyone else think the volume levels are higher now?

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Possibly foolishly did the T-Mobile updade this morning, first update it's asked me to do since getting the phone about 4 months ago. 2.12.110.2.

First thing to notice is that keyboard no longer worked, kept getting an error message, so no search, texts etc. Fixed that by unticking the thing that had "fatal error", namely the "HTC_IME mod" in Settings, Language & Keyboard.

Had to input password to Facebook again, fine.

    A few colours look different.

Although I've a code to draw to unlock the phone, I now don't have to every time - what's that about? Is it time-related? Previously once phone goes blank, I'd have to unlock it each time, which is how I wanted it. Now I only have to unlock it sometimes.. [Edit - seems the update changed a few settings, inc the "lock phone after..." setting in Security].

And finally a question - is there any way to get rid of the voicemail notification, without actually dialing voicemail? "Clear" doesn't do it.

AFAIK HTC_IME mod doesn't come as standard on stock ROMs. You have to root and flash it yourself...

New feature. You can disable it in settings.

Wondered the same thing, and no - not to my knowledge.

Don't like what the 2.2 did to my portrait view keyboard. The key to drop the keyboard out of view is only visible on landscape orientation, which is annoying since in portrait view the keyboard nearly always blocks the facebook "post" button! Instead, taking up space, I have a keyboard language select button! Useless!

I have a key to hide the keyboard in portrait and landscape modes.... Bit confused as to why you would be missing it! In landscape mode in the web browser, however the keyboard isn't quite to good at typing in boxes such as this forum reply box as it was with 2.1... I am wondering if there is a setting to change it back to how it was?

Bad news. My HTC Desire has had it. I haven't bricked it or anything. But the speaker is completely dead. Happened last night randomly. I'm gutted

I have trouble with that too, click in the reply box, it opens up but no keyboard, press again & the keyboard pops up but sometimes tends to 'forget' its entering text into the reply box & I have to click in it halfway through a message in order to continue.

You having to stick the original ROM on and cross your fingers?

problem is is they give you a new one you may get the SLCD one back.

If it's a refurb replacement possibly not, and anyway why is SLCD a bad thing? Much, much prefer it to my old AMOLED one

Its not so much a bad thing better in sunny conditions but hey we get like 2 days of sun a year. Personally I prefer the AMOLED screens.

i would kill for an SLCD on my GalaxyS, the "wide" pixels of AMOLEDs are not good.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

The sunlight legibility isn't actually much different between the two funnily enough.

The whites & the 'resolution' are far superior on the SLCD though, very noticeable especially in the browser, you can't see the pixels unlike on the AMOLED.

Can't see why I would have to do that. It is a hardware problem, not a software one. I'm still gonna nuke the crap out of it, and remove all the customization I've done to it. Unfortunately there is no Orange RUU so I could be up **** creek without a paddle. Even so, it has been less than six months and considering this is a top notch phone and the amount I'm paying for it. It should be expected to last years, not months.

Honestly not too fused over AMOLED and SLCD. AMOLED slightly edges it for me due to brightness of colours.
