Has anyone with a T-Mobile Desire enabled the Orange roaming? I've gone through the signup ok.
Am I right in thinking that 2.2 it's just a case of ticking "Data roaming" and off you go.....?
Am just a bit nervous of the phone roaming around on other networks and getting landed with a monster bill that bankrupts me.......
Cool - thanks dangel.
Ok, so I got one of these yesterday, and I'm trying to figure out how you're supposed to update it from 2.1 to 2.2. Many news sites tell me that Three do have the Froyo update available, but Three themselves don't seem to have anything on their website. I've tried doing the "Check now" via Settings --> About phone --> System software updates, but it just says my phone is up to date.
Any idea how I get this to work? It's definitely running 2.1 right now.
Personally, i'd just use unrevoked to root it and then flash it with a custom ROM from XDA developers. Don't bother with official ROMs they're out of date and slower. I'm using Leedroid and very happy with it.
Got two new suggestions for you guys to try out:
1) Power AMP
The best MP3 player by far. It's a free beta/trial at the moment, but I'm going to purchase it when he releases the full version in a few days ($5). Get it on the market.
2) Faster fix.
If you flash a rom which has the GPS configured for a different country then it can take ages to connect. This fixes this problem, now my GPS gets a fix in sub 5 seconds
Having never used a smartphone before, I'm still not quite sure how it works with my desire HD. For example, when I am on the internet and then go to the home screen, is the internet still running? Is this using more battery even though I'm not using it, and is this what so called "app killers" are for? If so, is there any one that's recommended?
The internet is generally "paused" if you press the home key, so if you go back to your browser it will be at the place you last were browsing. Whilst it is paused it is using a minuscule amount of battery but is still consuming system memory. Task Killers are more about freeing up memory, most useful if you are about to run an intensive app such as a high-end game, If you find Sense starts to lag, or if you are simply a little bit OCD for that kinda thing like I am! Just make sure that you "ignore" all the necessary system applications and processes if using a task killer. I use Task Killer (paid for) and I woudn't be without it's one-click-kill-widget.

Task killers are a waste of time... they do more harm than good. If you find anything lagging then you are better of restarting than killing tasks.
If you want to know the details why then many experts have written detailed articles about this so I suggest you read those.

I read it as this: killing tasks to free up memory is dumb (on 2.1 or later) because it actually slows things down, however rogue tasks eating CPU (and battery) can still (obviously) be undesirable (!) so sometimes a task killer comes in handy. Watchdog is useful in this regard as it'll alert you to when a task has gone mental so you can either kill it or uninstall/update it.
I swear I'm having serious reception issues, usually when wifi is turned on. A large portion of the time the phone picks up no signal despite the fact that the signal strength around here is awesome and I live in a city. Strange.
