Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

I'm a standard (though long-time) customer of Vodafone, and when, a month or so into having my first HTC Desire it started to restart regularly, I called them up, explained the situation, said I cannot do without it at work, and they caved in and gave me a next day like-for-like courier provided replacement, at work, free of charge. I do love Vodafone service. I had read online about all the problems people were having and how slow the turnover was, so there was no chance I was putting up with that

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

...got it back today...21 days from sending to getting it back and there are good and bad things to report.

The good, so far the repair has fixed the reboot problem.

    The bad

its been flashed with a Virgin Media ROM when they have it on file it was on o2 when it went in. Really Really pissed at this but then it gets worse...
all of the void stickers inside the back of the phone are either ripped or missing, meaning, had I not looked and reported it HTC would never have repaired my device again.
finally, given I have correctly conditioned the battery and given they insist I sent it in I marked it to ensure it was the same battery I got back that I sent. I didn't. Complained and they are sending out a new battery for me to condition again.

The phone has to go back to them AGAIN to be reflashed - I am not doing it myself, I would have considered it but they need to fix the void stickers too...so overall, I might have my phone back, but only for a week or two as I refused to ship it back till after the bank holiday...

As for getting the network to swap it, it was bought outright from o2 on the week of release so its treated as a PAYG handset so I wouldn't qualify for a swap out.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Sorry to Hijack again... but didn't want to start a new thread. First of all, is this the right thread for Desire Z?

Question: Any owners of the Desire Z experiences problems with the keyboard being less sensitive or when you click it two or more letters come out? I can't speed type on the keyboard anymore and have resorted to using the touch interface instead. Not sure what happened, but all of a sudden some of my keys aren't as responsive anymore, if you click hard enough it'll work but that limits my efficiency plus it comes out in x2 or x3 of the same letter which ends up resulting in backspacing and what not....

Anyone got any news on when 2.3 is being released for normal Desire? They said q2, and there's only a month to go...

    I'm getting quite impatient...

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

just an update to my issue.

The phone went ill, yep, it went bad, restarting in the middle of phone calls and alsorts this time. HTC would not budge, telling me there was nothing I could do but send it back in and by thier own admission the turnaround for a repair was still 20+ days so this would have been heading on for 6 weeks in total repair time to get my phone back.

I then did some digging and found I had bought the phone from o2 a year ago to the day I found the invoice.

After a bit of discussion on the subject and the agent initially saying it was out of warranty (the day I called was the day I ordered it a year prior so I still had 24 hrs on my warranty) they eventually saw the problems I was having and out of the blue replaced the handset free of charge (remember mine was a PAYG handset NOT contract as I use simplicity for a better deal) - not only that, but they don't sell the Desire anymore....so they sent me a brand new retail boxed Desire S - to say I'm happy is an understatement - 2.3 and a MUCH better screen and feel to the whole thing and it hasn't missed a beat in the week I've had it.

It gets better...I called o2 about the fact I still had the devil child desire handset - they've told me to dispose of it as I see fit, they don't want it back

Now THAT is service - some of the best I've seen in YEARS.

Wow... that is great service! I think you got lucky with the CS rep!

Now you just need to sell it and get a Galaxy S2

Has anyone else noticed that since installing LeeDroid, the time between the "your phone has 15% battery left" warning and your phone shutting down is a couple of minutes max?

I just got shot of my faulty Desire to a recyling site and got £145 for it. It was the dreaded overheat reboot issue so I was praying it wouldn't do it when they tested it an lo and behold I got the money for it no problem.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

turns out its a faulty battery on the desire which has caused most of the new problems - I tried the other halfs battery in it and it stopped shutting down - in that sense it will be good to recycle in so thats fine, but its on virgin media and got no warranty stickers - so its not something I wanted to keep.

Gonna call o2 today to confirm the notes are there to say I can keep it (just to be sure otherwise o2 will charge me £349 for the desire S I expect) - if the notes are there it will be on its way to recycling...

May I ask where? The going rate seems to be around £120 for a working one which is splitting me between getting shot or keeping it as a spare. If I can eek it up towards £150 or so it would make that decision a bit easier!

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

That was at Cash4Phones about two weeks ago I think. Bear in mind the prices go down every day and with the Sensation on the market it'll go down even further. If you see a price you're happy with on a recycling site don't hesitate because it will be less the next week or even next day.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

I got £144 from Mazuma not too long ago, but I did make the order two weeks before I sent it. There were others offering more, but I've used Mazuma before and they have a very good service (same day bank transfer). It's always worth doing it early if you are unsure because you're guaranteed the price for two weeks.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Has anyone installed the default Android email app along side Sense?

I need multiple Exchange support and Sense just doesn't do it. It is tempting to flash a custom ROM, but I don't want to mess about with my handset too much, especially as i'm not at home and cannot be without it working properly.

I did that on sense before I got into customising the ROM and going for the normal Google ROM's (like the ones for the Nexus One and the Nexus S).

HTC's email app is just unusable (back when I used it anyway) You couldn't multi-select emails or mark all as read or anything...

Does sense come with google's email app now? Before I had to download a non-sense android ROM, get the .apk file and install it on my device.

I love it how this same thread has gone from the life and death of some of these phones. Just shows how good the hexus community is.
