Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Appearently you don't have to pay duty on mobile phone's, its just the UK charge adapter and because that comes to under £9 you don't have to pay it.

It's just the VAT @ at 17.5% which is calculated by customs on the exchange rate at the start of the month.

Without the UK adapter (which is just an adapter, you can just pick one up from a travel shop) It comes to about £450 (VAT calculated on next months exchange rates seing as when it goes through customs it will most probably be June not May.)

The N1 is the better phone software wise from what I've seen. But tbh the desire beats it with the optical trackball and with abit of luck Expansys should post mine on Wednesday

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Anyone notice that the mp3 playback on this is actually bloody good.

I played the same file on the iphone, it sounded absolutely naff even with bass booster on but on the HTC Desire it sounds so much better and talk about a difference, it's night and day as far as I'm concerned.

Looks like the iphone is now going to be relegated to games for the kids in the car at this rate

Oh I know - That is why I prefer the creative mp3 players over ipods etc

It's a victory for Marketing over actual audio playback quality that people use ipods over other mp3 players.

The desire has some kind of dolby digital integration for sound playback.

i convert my videos to MPEG 4 using format factory... its pretty good. Converted some 720p MKVs and set the res to that of the screen - looked great.

Edit: If you can prove that it wouldnt cost much more than the desire then I would cancel my desire order now and buy the N1 from Google Would probably turn up quicker tbh...
I can't necessarily 'prove' anything, nor can I be all that bothered to tbh. I paid £59 VAT to go on top of the £356 for the phone with delivery (no charger) = £415. The exchange rate is probably much worse now.

Since then I've tried the Desire (cost me £280) but have stuck with the N1.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

The android pouch for my phone came today

I was surprised with it actually, its a perfect solution for just carrying it around. Its most probably not an official Google case (seing as it was from Hong Kong) but I cant imagine Google would go to much length with theirs in terms of quality.

Its a neoprene slip pouch which means theres no zip at the top to scratch the phone and its easy to slip in and out.

Theres a soft lining inside the pouch and on the lip at the top which stops the device from getting scratched.

It was delivered in less than a week, which is good considering most air cargo is delayed still due to the ash... Anyway its all pretty good for £3.50.

    Heres some photos:
