Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

Is using the gold card really necessary prior to using the unrevoked tool??? I'm sure when I rooted my Desire that I didn't need to use a goldcard first, just used the Unrevoked tool, installed the custom recovery image and then installed a new rom. Having said that I already had a Goldcard from my Hero hacking days but I'm pretty sure I didn't use it this time round. Maybe Singh can confirm this as I think we rooted our Desires around the same time.

Yeah I was just about to point this out - you don't need a goldcard when using Unrevoked. It really is a one click solution for those that can use it.

Quite simply, you need to do it once in the recovery boot thing (make sure you have debugging on) and then again when in Windows.

I had the "this drive isn't for this hardware" thing, but I force installed it anyway and it worked 100%, rooting it and installing the custom recovery image without issue.
Its says go into boot mode volume down power etc then plus in usb it should say hboot usb mode or something then tell you to goto dev manager and manually install hboot drivers at this point even though I point towards the hboot folder it cant find the drivers?

Yes mate, was exactly the same here. You need to go and update the driver manually, and select it. It'll say its the wrong one but it works fine.
Grab me on MSN later if you want and ill guide you through it.

If you read the instructions in the Unrekoved exe it tell you everything you need to know to install the special driver for boot access.

Ahhh I see, some people have had to use a linux/ubuntu live CD to get it to work.

    Oh. Arse

Still, at least I learnt how to make a goldcard! Hurrah!

What's weirding me out is that all my apps and settings are just 'there'. Years of Windows Mobile has got me used to losing everything..

It's nice having apps on SD - but not all want to go just yet sadly - any apps that force it?

Download ROM Manage, create a 512MB, 0 swap, and reboot the phone. All your apps will be moved to your SD card, and every one will be automatically stored on your SD card from now. Simples.

Correct me if I'm wrong but a goldcard is still needed if you want to install official 2.2 without rooting. Also a goldcard is needed to unroot...

Done this but apps still install to internal memory. Should I be able to see the 512MB partition as a drive in Windows by USB?

No you shouldn't be able to see it. And your ROM needs to have APPS2SD installed already. What ROM are you using?
