It will be interesting to see how Googles UI compares to the like of Sense. I would hope that if it does render Sense superfluous then HTC can come up with more of their own widgets.
Personally I don't think HTC can afford to drag their heels on this one. They got away with it with HTC Hero, but it won't fly with the HTC Desire. Some people are already refusing to buy the HTC Desire, because of their laziness with getting 2.1 on to the HTC Hero. It has already damaged them from a customers POV.

No, I reckon they'll work as hard as they can to get 2.2 out to Desire & Legend.

I'm too looking forward to the UI reset from Google. Should be very interesting, I have never used stock Android UI. But surely it can NOT be that bad as some people are making out?

It's not that bad no, but HTC Sense is just so much better. It's a typical case of once you use something better, going back is painful.

Re: The Official HTC Desire Thread

I think I have an issue with my HTC Desire

It will not switch off at all. If I try to switch it off, all I get is the shutting down box appear with the background going all blurred as it should and then it just stays like this for a good 10-20 mins, probably longer but I get annoyed and remove the battery to reboot the phone.

It runs awesomely, apart from this 1 little niggle, and I never noticed it before the other day as I never powered it off as it's on 24/7.

This is quite common. Firstly, do you have a Task Killer running? Try killing all open apps first using the Taks Killer then shut the phone down.

Also maybe because you don't turn it off regularly its doing a complete phone backup to SD which takes time too.

Nope, nothing like that at all...

It's a default normal ROM on virgin, no rooting at all and the only apps I've got are bump and all the usual google ones ( i.e night sky, goggles etc)

It might be the SD backup as you've stated so I'll look into that further

It's worth a shot, but keep in mind that task killers can also cause a lot of issues by killing things they really shouldn't.

Unless you have a very specific purpose for one (badly behaved app for example), you shouldn't use a task killer on Android for day to day use. See: http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-b...-with-android/

Try "advanced task killer" - it's really easy to kill stuff with one click and choose which apps to leave alone

DON'T use any task killers, instead use the built-in Services one. It's under the Applications and something, under "running applications/services". Stop everything you can, and try to shutdown then.

No And why not? It's perfectly simple to work out what to kill and what not (to me anyway) in ATK

I used one for a while, and I found performance to be better when not killing things off. I find them useful if an app is buggy, but otherwise not much use. After finding the link above about them, it makes more sense.

Did you notice any improvement with them?
