VirtualDub, VirtualVCR, SAGETV, IUVCR, GBPVR, et al... Let's see them get their hands on the 550 Pro and really write some code for this baby. Maybe ATI counted on this all along? It'd sure be a shrewd move on their part to artificially create a cult status and underground movement for this card by denying the support they promised. Indy software coders and enthusiasts would be pig-piling on to help make it the best it can be. ATI just sits back and watches sales go up as folks realize there's support for the chip at last.

    Shrewd, ATI. Real Shrewd.

    Am I crazy here, you guys...?

    You could turn out to be absolutely right... I think you got something here. I suppose I should at least e-mail the VirtualVCR people.

    Just back from 3.56 million meetings at CeBIT
    (OK - maybe that is a slight exageration - but it was still a lot !)

    I had a chat with the guys at InterVideo and they confirmed that 550 support was gonna happen reeeeal soon - so 'watch this space'

    Welcome back.

    Any chance Cyberlink will add free EPG and save location support soon for those with 550 cards, followed by bitrate control? Perhaps they can fix their software with baby steps.

    Thanks for the Intervideo update.

    Yes but... will the support be released for their lame Home Theater or will their superior Windvr3 (with it's ability to set bitrates) also be supported?

    WINDVR 3 already allows the Theater 550 PRO to be used as a capture device.

    $80 though...no thanks...
    You shouldn't have to buy hardware then have to buy your own software to make it work....

    I agree! I already had WINDVR and just tried it when the Theatrix was installed. ATI should make MMC work as promised in the manual that came with the card and, they should also say if the dolby digital encoding is hardware or just software like in WINDVR and Nerovision Express.

    Well, it doesn't necessarily have to be MMC, just bundled software that doesn't suck. And right now, they are failing that part.

    Tell me about it. That wonderful bundled product PowerCinema is no longer installed on my machine. I am running an Asus PGDC Deluxe with a Sapphire X600 Pro & it would not allow me to access the composite or S Video inputs at all, it would just lock up the program.(and no there were no IRQ conflicts, it is the program) The only way to access them in this amazingly bad product was to completely remove the drivers for the X600 and let it run in VGA mode, then they would work. Makes me want to rush out and by more Cyberlink and ATI products.

    Ditto. I paid $83 for the card: I don't want to pay almost as much for software to run it.

    I believe the solution here is to have ATI work with Cyberlink to fix the Power Cinema software for 550 purchasers promised MMC support. ATI could "encourage" Cyberlink to add:

    1) Variable/constant bitrate control;
    2) Filter and interlace control;
    3) EPG;
    4) File save location control;
    5) Custom bitrate control;
    6) Sharpness control;
    7) Volume control for recordings.

    Then, ATI could post the above features in a downloadable update on their website. In this way, ATI customers almost get what they were promised (MMC support), and ATI can have that third party support it wants. I am sure a cd key prompt could prevent non-card owners from using the software.

    This idea that I can pay Cyberlink more money to add some features which were already on the promised, free MMC is offensive.

    Finally, does anyone know if BTV allows s-video recordings with bitrate control?

    Thanks

    S.

    Ok some new info which some of you ask about the audio not working in GraphEdit which I belive is part of the problem has to with ATI DShow Filter not fully working rigth, any way the problem is you need set audio pin first with ATI AVSterm Analog Xbar Properties under the Crossbar tab.
    Current Input: Must say 3 or 4 Audio (Depend on input needed)
    Check the box Link Related Stream and Apply it
    Related Pin: will Video input 0, 1
    Ocen that done it should then work but for SVideo you have change after you have the above step first or audio will not start, Which belive is why some of thoses 3rdparty tools or not work rigth which give you Video but not any Audio.

    Thumbs down ATI has "lost it" .

    I tried to be nice,I really did, I had opened 3 tickets with ATI regarding
    MMC support and the 550.
    I have also nicely mentioned the fact that ATI has obviously
    dropped the ball and reversed there intentions to support MMC.
    This is very obvious when we look at all the ATI documentation,presentations
    etc.
    MMC 9.3 and the mysterious 9.4 versions looked like they had a chance.
    MMC 9.6 has clearly been "Fixed" to NO longer see the 550 as TV2 or DTV.
    I am trying to tolerate the card with PowerEnima but its painful.
    I tried to figure out how to add new music to the picture slideshow feature...
    What a joke, the app. seems to scan and find whatever it likes, some mp3s
    many .wavs. I cant add music by selection ?! ERRRRRR !!

    SO, Who is going to take on the cause and start the class action lawsuit.
    I am very suprised It has not happened ...YET!.
    This is clearly a case of false advertising.
    Personally I am more upset with ATI for letting down its most loyal
    customers. and not stepping up to admit the truth.

    This reminds me of back in the 80s when IBM shipped the first microchannel XGA video card and promised 24 bit color support( 16.7 mil color).I bought one.
    When it didnt work I was told I would need to buy another $500.00 video card
    called XGA-2 !! ,after a few calls to the right people ,IBM agreed and shipped out the new version for free.
    ATI is still in denial. I wonder how much this issue has cost ATI in reputation:
    today and for years to come.
    I also remember a company named Diamond, I had an expensive VRAM card I had purchased from them and then was told no more drivers within like a year or so. That was the last Diamond product for me.
    evidently the industry agreed. Now Diamond MMC is just a name.
    Can you see an ATI AIW G-Force 6X9800-XX in the future ?? !
